    MX Settings for easydns.com

I'm trying to setup my email through easydns.com so I can use my Dathorn mailserver as my primary mail server, and then use the easydns.com as my secondary server (was previously experiencing lost email from Dathorn - the problem seems to have gone away though). Anyway, just trying to cover my own butt so I don't loose anymore messages.

For those of you who have experience with easydns.com, could you tell me how you set yours up ? I'm unsure what to add for my Dathorn account - would it just be : mail.mydomain.com ? or mx.mydomain.com ?

As it is now, I have :

    Mail for zone : mydomain.com.
    Handled by servers :

    smtp.easydns.com. Preference : 5
    smtp2.easydns.com. Preference : 10

I'd like to be able to set it up so :

    Mail for zone : mydomain.com.
    Handled by servers :

    mail.mydomain.com. Preference : 5
    smtp.easydns.com. Preference : 10
    smtp2.easydns.com. Preference : 15

Does that look right ? My email will go to my Dathorn account first, if for some reason the server is down, the email will then go to the easydns.com account. I'm a real dummy with all of this, please give some suggestions.

    Thanks

Is there anyone else that can help me out with easydns.com with a little more than a one word answer.

Openbox - with your response of "Yes." I went ahead and changed the "MX Settings" in my easydns.com account to reflect the following :

      Mail for zone : mydomain.com.
      Handled by servers :

      mail.mydomain.com. Preference : 5
      smtp.easydns.com. Preference : 10
      smtp2.easydns.com. Preference : 15

I didn't change anything else in that account, nor did I change anything else in my Dathorn account. With the change above (with which you responded with "Yes"), all of my email is bouncing now with an "Unknown User" message.

There used to be a full thread on this easydns.com issue on the old board - could someone update this new board with that information ?

Since they're a dns service I would think that you would also need to change your dns @ your registrar to point to easydns too, have you done that?

As shown what you changed should work just like OB said it would. Do a dig on it at DNS reports or post/pm your domain name and let someone else check it.

Why are you using a preference of 5 for your first entry?
Surely you want that to be 1 as its your priority mail server...

Secondly, have a read of the EasyDNS FAQ's, there's is loads of information on how to set the system up and what to do if you're not too sure.
Their support is pretty good too, so if you get stuck, email them and ask for assistance.

Thirdly, have you setup mail.yourdomain.com as a host in the EasyDNS setting?
This needs to be there in order to point to your dathorn server.

Also, as Dan said above, have you changed your DNS entries at your registrar in order to point to EasyDNS?

Dan, changing my dns at my registrar to point to the easydns.com servers was the first thing I did.

David, isn't changing the preferences in 5 point increments the proper thing to do (starting at 5). Should it matter seeing that my Dathorn account has the lowest number already ? Yes, I have already read their FAQs before I started this thread, hence the reason for me putting my Dathorn preference to "5" as stated in their FAQs. With regard to your third comment - have I setup mail.mydomain.com as a host ... I didn't even think of that, makes sense huh ? That was probably the issue right there. Thanks for the help, I'll try it out asap.

I thought about that after i wrote the post
