Awstats hosts IP not resolved to domain

An interesting feature of Awstats is the hosts report which identifies the visitors to the web site. For some reason at Dathorn the IP address is not translated to the domain name (see example below). Is there an option or conversion that I need to run?

Maybe not critical, but this report was interesting to discuss with clients when the domain information is available.

That is deliberately. They think it uses too much system resources ad that we do not need it.

You may install your own copy of AWStats, and get everything you want, with less accuracy because you cannot synchronise your AWStats with Dathonr's logggng and also you will use up "too much" system resources.

When I used to use Analog and had to do an export off of the server, there was a program called LookupIP which I ran to resolve the IP addresses and replace an existing Analog file. Is there a similar program that we could run to just update the existing Awstats file with the domain name? Quite likely, we would not have to run this every month for every account, but just when a client was interested.

Perhaps there may be a solution that would keep our servers fast and provide the information when it is needed. Does a utility exist where we could load a short list of IP addresses and it would resolve them to the domain names? Then rather than updating Awstats, we could just run the utility when infrequently we care about the IP address. .... hmmmm wait a minute

Copy and pasted the hosts data into a text file and ran LookupIP against the file - works good enought for me - here is the before and after of the text file:

I think AWStats can cache resolved IP's so that would do the same job and it is alrady there. Eben better, if we all use the same awstats then we would share the same cache.

Sure it can handle that, but we'd still have to install a copy on each domain. I'm still waiting for a custom switch of sorts to enable this on the current install on a per domain basis...
