    Web based file manager

    Hi all,

I'm not sure if this is the right forum to post this question, but anyway ...

I'm after some kind of web based file manager where I (or anyone else) would be able to upload and download files to server from the web browser.

Something simple, php based and of course free. I looked around the web and there are a few but I just couldn't get any that is really right. Any suggestions would be apreciated.

    Thanks

The file manager in cpanel takes some time to get used to it, but it does work.

I still have a client website on "freeservers.com," and that site has a web-based file manager, because they want to charge extra for FTP access. (It's static enough that I don't care, and it's been there since the 90's, so I hate to move it. May have to soon, tho.)

There's also Internet Exploder's FTP client, and other FTP clients, but those are not PHP-based of course.

You can get great functionality out of either IE or Firefox.

Use "ftp://ftpUserName@yourdomain.com", where "ftpUserName" is the username for the ftp account. Supply your password in the dialog box that pops up, and you have an interface that is very similar to Windows Explorer, where you can drag and drop files from your desktop to the site.

I think Cpanel allows you to set up different FTP usernames and access levels.
