    do we balcklist?

Does Dathorn or The Planet blacklist IP addresses?

From my employer, a .edu, I cannot reach Web sites on cpanel05 (or cpanel05.gzo.com). Our tech support folks claim that our address "must have been black listed by the hosting service."

I first noticed this on Friday of last week. I can ping the server from here (about 180 miles from The Planet), so know that there is nothing broken in the network. I can reach the Web sites normally from my own dial-up service at home (a mile from my office), again suggesting that there is nothing wrong in the network. I forget which ones, but I CAN reach some gzo servers.

    Any thoughts on possible causes?

Some of my visitors in the past have had their IP addresses in a block list at Dathorn.
If you ask your visitor for their IP address then submit a trouble ticket Andrew normally takes care of things.

Not all Dathorn servers are inaccessible to me. I cannot reach cpanel05-9, but can reach cpanel10-15, for example. If Dathorn is blocking, then it is only from some servers and not from others. If everything is now physically located at The Planet (I thought so, but maybe I'm wrong), then I would expect that all servers would be blocking me.

I used some online DNS check services that displayed red and yellow colors with warnings that I don't have the technical background to understand. I've submitted a trouble ticket on that issue.

You could do the obvious and post a trouble ticket to find out.

Seeing hows its an .edu are you absolutely posititive that they are not filtering any such IP's? One of the colleges I went to, would often filter out the most hit IP's/domains of sites that weren't "learning sites".

i know some IPs have been banned in the past because of DOS attacks. Just get the IP that can't get in and post a support ticket to see.

Thanks; from past posts about attacks, I had suspected this was occasionally done. The end result of a few questions and checks in the trouble ticket is that neither The Planet nor Dathron is blocking this address. I can ping and traceroute from the school, and I think that means that nothing is blocking me anywhere between the school and The Planet.

I had submitted (to the school) the day before regarding school email being bounced by recipients; the guys on my end replied that they had "added pointer records" to fix this. That my students couldn't reach two of my websites the next day seemed to be more than a mere coincidence. But the guys on my side won't admit to anything more than "that website has blacklisted us."

Looks like there is nothing I can do about it, but at least I'm now satisfied that the Dathorn end of things is working just fine. I'm sure I wore out Andrew with my list of questions, but he was as patient as could be and I now feel more comfortable in pointing a finger at the guys on my end.
