response time for European internet users

    Hi,

I am a Dathorn customer for more that two years now and I'm very pleased by the service offered by Andrew and his team.

Most of my sites are visited by European based users. When I compare the response time to load my websites with other European sites, it's rather slow. This can have many reasons, that's why I would like to get some advice on how I can test the different factors which influence the response time of my websites. On thing I could do to improve the response time, would be moving to a European based hosting company. But they are rather expensive and I would need to say goodbye to Dathorn.

    Thank you for your help!

All of my clinets are from Europe and quite frequently the complain that they cannot reach their site or there are timeouts, or page is loaded but some images are not. i also noticed that ftp is qute often very slow. I think someone else also spoke about similar problems. When I contact support about this issue I simply get: "it is working here".

Yeah, i have that issue too. Being in the UK i do notice that some of my sites take a lot longer to load up at certain times.

Thanks for your reply and support Pedja and sdjl.

I recognize the reply "it is working here". Of course it works in the US, the problem is not the server performance, but the network backbones to Europe.

I think Andrew should look for other options to increase the network performace for European users.

We have been at The Planet for a long time and have no intentions of moving. A foreign provider may better suit your needs or at least one on a US coast.

Any US Coast or European provider you would recommend Andrew?

All my customers are based over here (north-east Italy) and they barely believe me when I tell them their websites are actually half a world away. Average ping is 235ms. I'm definitely staying here.
