What is needed for hosting band mp3s...

What is needed to present to the host (Dathorn) from a band, to be able to host their mp3s on your own site (or their own (band) site) hosted here?

I help promote several local (St. Louis) bands. What permission information is needed from them, for Dathorn to allow us to host/post them?

Just want to know, so I can get whatever is needed up front & squared away.

If it is their own site then there won't be any problems and you don't really need anything...

As long as you have permission from the copyright holder you shouldn't have a problem

If you really want to cover yourself, get this in writing stating what you are allowed to do with the files and that the person giving you permission owns the copyright.

Okay, wanted to make sure. That's what I thought it was, but wanted to know for sure. My only instance would be if a fan questioned it possibly.

              AND...

Let's assume you know you have to have permission - composer's rights, performer's rights and owner of master recording rights. These can be different people, so ensure you know.

Check to ensure the band doesn't have an agreement with recording/distribution organizations (ASCAP, BMI, SESAC, Harry Fox Agency, various record labels, etc.). If the band has agreements, there can be stipulations in the contract that even though the band is not distributing that specific music under license with the organization, the organization has rights which are enforceable (read payment).

              Have fun,

              - Fran
