Question about hits / traffic before i host a short term site...

A friend of mine is needing to host a site with a "few" 100% static HTML files.

I've don't some digging around the forums, and an a bit weary about stressing the cpanel server, doubly since i'm not the only person on that cpanel.

These numbers are from him, and are an estimation. I've no idea how they were calculated, but would this be a foreseeable problem?

a site with a handful of 100% static, small size html files.. appx 600k estimated hits on the first day, with a massive drop in hits over the next few days?

If this question can not be answered outright, i fully understand that.... But it's NOT always best to ask forgiveness instead of permission. ;-)

    Many Thanks

That's about 7 hits per second. I doubt the hits would come in spread out nice and evenly. There probably will be one or more peaks. In which case, 7 hits per second quickly grows - yes it looks like a problem. Start hogging the TOP ten processes and someone is bound to notice.

    But I'm totally guessing ...

I would submit a trouble ticket and ask Andrew anyway, Andrew may even have some helpful suggestions.

Buddha hit the nail on the head. Even averaged out that is a good amount of traffic for a shared hosting account. But when you take into account that there will be peaks I can almost guarantee you that we would end up suspending this domain and/or pointing the DNS to it elsewhere.

Thanks guys. ;-) That's all I needed to know.

Just found out that they wanted to host a 15meg MP3 of a speakers announcement... Nipped it in the bud right then and there before it even started. ;-)

With that much traffic and a 15MB download you can pretty much say goodbye to a 100Mbps port. Good decsion!
