Well I and our poor service at other webhost have convinced our client to move here.
Now I just have to figure out the particulars to make the move as smooth as possible.

If it's possible I would like to talk with someone either in private chat or on the phone to schedule this move.

I am currently unable to send email from my location, hence why I was looking for another alternative.

Your quick responses to the boards offered me hope I could discuss somethings with you so when it comes time to get the credit card info from the client I have all my questions answered and have a process in place to make the transition.

I will not be contacting my client until after 6pm PDT and I figure support will be harder to get in the evening hours.

I may be able to cover some of the general items here.

Currently we are with a host that also appears to control the domain. The client does not know exactly how they have it setup.

I think we need to first transfer the domain to something the client controls (Does dathorn offer domain registration?)

Then setup hosting here.

Currently we have about 880MB disk spaced used and 250MB ish in MySQL DB's. Last month used about 4GB transfer (If I read the report right) so it appears as the basic plan would work well for us.

Once we have an account setup, then get everything working on the site and from here it gets a little fuzzy. It's an active site and I know DNS changes take anywhere from a few minutes to 48 hours. (depending on how it propigates,) Do we get a dedicated IP on shared hosting or will there be others on that IP as well. (i.e. can I put a redirect to http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/index.php and that be our site or will that error out because it is looking to the incomming URL to determine which account to send it to?

We are using FutureNuke's CMS as a solution, were ideally the main thing we use now is the forum aspect of the cms system. (I use the front page for a shoutbox and server information.)

If we need to have a resolvable URL, then the friend that reffered me has a TLD .info for our domain and he can point that to what ever IP we get. and do a redirect to that URL if necessary.

Once the redirect is done, in 48-72 hours confirm all is working on the new site, then pull the plug on the old domain.

We have a few automated scripts that run and would need to put them in cronjobs, I am sure with the ssh and cpanel that will be easy enough to setup. (back up of our MySQL DB and webstie files.)

One of my conserns is we suposedly have "Unlimited HD storage" with our current host and the basic only comes with 40GB. Since I am only using 1GB I think that will be a NON issue, but one that will be something I have to explain to the client.

Does the 40GB HD space include the MySQL data? or is that a separate figure?

Just to clarify, a couple of times you noted 40GB of disk space for our basic plan. The correct value is 4GB which is listed on our website. If you're only using 1GB, then surely there is no issue here. There is no such thing as unlimited storage. You get what you pay for and that is apparently part of the reason that you are wanting to move.

You are correct in regards to the domain. You most certainly will want to transfer this to a domain registrar away from the existing host so that you can fully manage it. This alone will take at least a few days. We are not a domain registrar and as such do not offer this service.

One dedicated IP address is included with each account. However, all dedicated IP addresses require proper justification. Essentially, unless you will be installing a SSL certificate, a dedicated IP is not necessary. You will have a temporary URL that you can preview the domain at in the format of http://server/~username/. This URL, however, is not to be used for public access. It only exists for preview purposes by site owners/administrators/etc.

Question. I want to get our customers going to the new site quickly, even quicker than a domain transfer. So if I use one of my parked domains, www.whateverihaveavailable.com and setup the site with that domain is it easy to change to www.myrealdomain.com later after the control is received from the transfer?

Yes, there are a couple of ways that this could be handled but it certainly is possible.
