    mailto: going to SPAM??

    Hi,
I have a customer that has a big contact list hosted in a php CRM. He contacted me saying that if he mailed one of his contacts directly from Outlook Express the mail goes ok, but if he clicked the mailto: HTML link on the CRM (Outlook Express opens), the mail goes directly to the junk folder.

My first answer was: THIS IS IMPOSSIBLE, YOU ARE DOING SOMETHING ELSE WRONG.

Now I wonder: Is there ANY possibility that he is right and this CAN actually happen??

    Thanks!

    Mateo

Have him forward one of each message to you so you can compare them. The spam filter is probably picking up something in the header of the email message from the "mailto" link that it isn't liking. I don't know Outlook Express that well, but it may be adding something when it responds to a mailto link.

Thanks a lot for the reply. I did compare both mails but can't find big differences that may cause this.

      Here's the code.

      Thanks again.

      Mateo

Well the source domain isn't even hosted with us. But it would be a good idea for them to setup a SPF record at least.

Yes, the mail server is not on dathorn, but the CRM is. Do you think the mailto: link can affect this??

I'm sorry, but what is a SPF record??

          Thanks a lot!!

This is not related to the CRM in any way as the emails are being sent directly via Outlook, apparently from his ISP's SMTP server. The mailto link itself shouldn't cause any issues either as the email is still being sent the same way (from Outlook).

A proper SPF record should be configured with the DNS host for the domain. Though I cannot guarantee that this will help, it certainly wouldn't hurt. We really cannot do anything for you in this case as this does not involve us.

            Some info on SPF: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sender_Policy_Framework
