Backup Service?

I just noticed that the old backup system (the $2/GB on) isn't mentioned on the new website's services page:

But there is Daily Offsite Backups included with every account. Is this part of the change that was announced earlier this year? And does it make the old backup system obsolete?

We're currently in the process of testing our new backup system on a select few servers. At this time we're still working out all of the kinks (as you discovered this morning) before we deploy it to all of our servers. Once this is fully deployed we will make an announcement. At the very least pricing for this service will be reduced. Ideally we would like to remove it entirely but we'll see how feasible this is.

Hi, I was just now looking into backup service and also noticed there's no longer any mention of it and every plan now lists "Daily Backups". Is account data actually being backed up daily and is it included for "free"? From the sounds of it, this was not yet the case back in June.

All of our servers are being backed up daily at this time but this has not been officially released / announced. We're still working out some issues, particularly with MySQL. Once we've completed integration of the new backup system entirely we will determine final pricing (if any) and announce it accordingly. We do, however, always recommend that clients maintain their own backups of any important data they might have. Backups do fail too and you can never have too many copies.

what's the difference between default daily backup service and the additional daily backup service (the $2/GB)? if we discontinue the additional daily backup service, do we still have daily backup service?

It is largely a difference in backup software used. Please go ahead and submit a ticket regarding this so that we can discuss the specifics of your account.
