Subdomains

Edit: I think I worked it out, I hadnt cretated subdomains for my domain. How do I setup ftp for her subdomain? Do I just create a folder in my ftp account?

I have a friend who I am going to create a subdomain for. However, when I did this for myself the other day I just kept getting an error when I visited the subdomain, this was after propogation. Apart from createing it in cPanel, do I have to set it up somewhere else?

1) Log into cPanel > Subdomains (OR Manage Subdomains depending on skin);
2) Create your subdomain (i.e., 'test' @ 'domain.com')
3) Go to 'FTP ACCOUNTS' > Make one for your friend;
4) Directory is name of sub-domain, no slash ( / ) b4 the name tho
5) FTP using 'ftpaccountname@domain.com' as user, pass as you set it.

This way your friend will only have access
to their subdomain, and NOT your files!!

FTP login not working...

Okay, I believe I followed the instructions correctly.

I set up the subdomain, and it is viewable from the web: subdomainname.mydomain.com.

I went into cPanel's FTP section and created an account for the subdomain, including username and password. The FTP maintenance page is showing the account - name@mydomain.com.

But when I use my FTP program, I'm not getting in. I'm getting a "530 Authentication failed, sorry" message.

I've tried logging in both with ftpname@mydomain.com (as described above), and just with name@mydomain.com (which is how my top-level domains work in my FTP software).

I'm not seeing what's wrong. Can anybody give me some clues?

Nevermind, I got it. I needed the top level domain in the first field, then name@domain.com in the user section. All hunky-dory now.
