Oz and Buddah, both of those lok helpful.

The concern with the php is- I want to be sure to be SE friendly and insure G o o g l e PR transfers from domains.com to www.domain.com

I'm guessing that the 301 redirect permanant would accomplish this. I just don;'t want to put it in my .htaccess file, and have everything blow up!

Once I did a zone edit, thought I followed directions exactly, but must have done something wrong, because the domain stopped resolving for 2 days! Finally support helped out.Ouch!

I take it that domain.com has a higher PR than www.domain.com? Maybe you have some incoming links to one and not the other? The 301 should transfer any stray incoming links too. This could improve your PR.

Eventually the 301 should fix the problem. However, it won't happen immediately. Forthmore, the PR could go down. Discarding incoming links, PR basically indicates the depth of your site. If domain.com is considered the home page then removing it may drop your PR.

I would just fix it now eventually the PR will level out after a few months.

Buddah, yet again your prove that you are wise!

It was HORRIBLE! My domain which had domain.com was PR4, while www.domain.com was PR2! THEN, they "equalized" and the 2 became a 3 and the 4 DROPPED to a 3! ARGGGG!

A friend told me if I had this already set up, I might have ended up with a PR5 and a PR0 instead! I was so sad!

PS- what do I know? I am only an ant beneath the boot of the mighty Googel-Gods

PR is on a logarithmic scale the difference between 3 and 4 is much smaller than say 4 and 5. Since your highest PR was 4, I wouldn't expect it to go above PR4 when you make the fix. It looks like you had a significant number of links coming in on one domain and not the other. PR0 sometimes doesn't mean a thing just check your keywords in the SERPs. If you disappear from the SERP then PR0 has significant meaning! None of them good either.

This sounds like it might be a complicated way of saying, "Googel is bad".

Basically, you discombobulated the fidorka when realigning the franistat calibration inverters! Remember to transify the phase inductors before spotulating the omnicronic dibicator! It's right there in the manual!
