I put anything I want in the from address, but as long as at Dathorn I have that address forwarding to another POP elsewhere (not visable to user), it won't overload Dathorn's servers by trying to send again and again.

In the email newletter software I use it has a from field and a reply to field.

What I am wondering is if you put the domain at dathorn as the from field but the reply to as another pop email outside dathorn.

Will the bounce's go to the replyto: or the from:???
Replyto should always be optional. I suggest not using it. I only use the from (ie: noreply@domain.com) I'm not sure which one overrides which for the bouncebacks. Probably the from.

I'm safely sending out 9000 emails to customers using my cable company's mail server with a cPanel domain in the from address. That from address is then forwarded to a POP in another account. It could perhaps be in the same domain/account and work fine, but I haven't tried that yet.

Can anyone advise me as to what this means. I guess I had over 800 emails being sent back and forth and was causing some problems.

Brett, I contacted admin and they said this is not the case. If your dathorn domain either a pop OR A FORWARD it will affect the server on bounces'

Are you using a bounce handler? What program are you using to send the emails and are you sending in small batches stretched over time?

Let me also point out that I am not using Dathorn's servers to send out. Sounds like you're now experiencing what I have. Propper service is tough to come by when you need it.

No handler yet. I should. I'm actually using my ISP to send out right now, using a Mac tool called MaxBulk Mailer, pulling the list from PHPList. I'd like to use PHPList to send, but it somehow loaded up the server too. Funny how it's an option in cPanel, but we shouldn't use it for what it's supposed to be used for.

            brett,

I was also referring to sending using my isp, the problem can occur during bounces if you use a dathorn hosted account in the from: field.

Admin told me even if the from: field is a forward it still goes through the server and can cause loads on bounces..

I am also using phplist to maintain my list and funny enough also using MaxBulk mailer for sending!! One difference is that I am using the Bounce Handler available from Max Bulk.

I have heard of infacta.com for pc users. any one else have suggestions..

Bummer. You must be trying to send many more than I. I was sending 9000. I'm sure there is a load on the other server I'm on now, but at least with a forward, it doesn't try resending to bouncebacks, etc... They just fall into another POP now. This is evidently what was originally bringing the server to it's knees.

WOW! Message me if you want the details as to what I had to do that may or may not help you. Sorry I don't have your complete answer.

So now I must ask you how you take your bounced emails and remove them from PHPList...? I've been wanting to clean up our list, but wasn't sure the best way to do it (bulk remove).
