Are Genuity and ThePlanet being blocked ?

    I recomended dathorn in comp.lang.php

I received a warning (see below) that there could be problems because Genuity and ThePlanet have had problems with proxy hyjacking etc. , so many system admins are blocking thier IPs.

If anyone has a good retort, I will be happy to post it. If it is true, Is there any indication that things will be better ? I could just say that if it ever becomes a real problem, I trust dathorn to stay on top of it, even if they have to change partners.

Is this perhaps, an outdated rumor? This spam cop claims to have gotten more cooperation from the planet recently. http://groups.google.com/groups?q=pr...le.com&rnum=12
This is a year old, back in 2003-08-30

What follows is part of the original warning.

    >>Any suggestions for a good LAMP reseller account?
    >>>>
    >>>> Taking quality/ price and bandwidth as the main criteria.
    >>>>
    >>>> I need to support 10 domains at present.

    >> secrets on the internet. I'm almost afraid to tell everyone about it.

With upstreams of Genuity and ThePlanet (both firewalled at the borders
here for proxy hyjacking and more).. there could be problems (I'm by far
the only one doing this also).

A lot of research needs to be done before picking a host.. just because
    they're cheap or in a big datacentre doesn't automatically mean it's a
good deal(tm).. so many people get assigned an IP address and then whinge
like kids who lost their candy about problems with their IP being blocked
by numerous system admins. Problem is, it's not _their_ IP at all, but
their ISP's or upstreams, making life even more difficult for them
personally to get a speedy resolution.

Moved to much more appropriate forum.

I've really not heard anything of this nature at all. Every problem we received regarding a possible IP block is taken care of as quickly as possible.

I have no knowledge of blocking issues, but I do have experience with making a recommendation for Dathorm once. Product attributes of "low price" and "in a big data center", as mentioned in the reply that you got, triggered a claim of oversold servers in my post. Sometimes people make claims because they can rather than because they are true.

This might be an indication of what is happening.

Theplanet is on an old monkeys.com list of proxy hyjacking freindly sites.
        http://www.merit.edu/mail.archives/n.../msg00239.html

But according to monkeys.com, "1,500 different Internet sites are still improperly referring to the various monkeys.Com anti-spam lists."

"Please note that we have made all reasonable attempts to contact all of the different mail server administrators at all of the different Internet sites that have been using our anti-spam lists, and we have tried to convince them all to stop improperly making references to our former anti-spam lists.":

Do you have any factual information that is even within the last couple of months to prove any of this? I really don't see why this was brought up if all that you have is from early 2003. From what I can tell you're just taking this guys word for it and asking us to prove him wrong.

Here is some more, more recent info http://groups.google.com/groups?q=g:...ws.com&rnum=51
this is a list of the ip addresses at theplanet that have been hijacked in recent weeks.

            A news article on http://www.spews.org/news.html
indicates that theplanet was on their list, but was removed after they fixed the problem.

<quote>ThePlanet.com, removed the bulk emailers going by the name of "Convineo Communications" who were really just spammers Daniel & Maria "Miko" Walls and some figure/alias named "Sam Lloyd." <quote>

Okay, so the Spews issue was resolved. As for the proxy hijacking - to be honest, who cares? Our IP's are not blocked. We strictly prohibit the use of any sort of proxy software on any of our servers and will suspend any account that even has traces of one.

I guess I'm just still missing the entire point of this thread here.

And I'm missing the point of your replys. As far as I can see, even if you prohibit proxy software, that has little to do with the problem at the planet, if there is one. No one said the spammers were on any Dathorn servers, just that they were on the servers upstream.

I believe its probably true that your ips ae not blocked, but I wonder how you can tell. I guess there would be people complaining if there were.

When I recomended dathorn, I received a response. I tried to ascertain whether it was valid. I posted to this forum for help figuring out the truth, so that I might learn something from people far more experience than I. I wasn't trying to prove anything or get you to prove anything. jeesh.

Well then I suppose I'll just leave this thread be. Quite simply, if there were problems, we would be receiving many complaints as we have over 1,500 customers and some of those resellers have several of their own customers as well. We've not received a single complaint from anyone regarding this or any network blocks for that matter that haven't been resolved.
