    Step-by-step website

    Hi guys,

How do I build a website? I already have the files and all. Is there a website/web page that can teach me this step-by-step? Like, how do I upload my files, how do I test test prior to uploading, etc?

There are some excellent tutorial sites out there, and I've listed just a few below. But which ones apply to your case depend on what you want to do with the site.

Here's how I categorize websites for my customers:

    1) Announcement or Static Sites - These are web pages that have content that doesn't change very often. An example would be a company with a few web pages, usually something like an "About Us" page, a page with their contact information, a page with the products they sell listed (but no sales through their web site). This is the easiest type of site to set up.

    2) Static Sites with Frequent Changes - This might include a site with a photo album, blog, or other content that changes frequently, but otherwise the format and overall number of pages in the site doesn't change often.

    3) Interactive Sites - Sites with interactive elements such as an on-line store with payment processing, reader contributions, etc.

It will be easier for us to tell you how to go about learning how to set up your site if we know exactly what it is you want on the site.

Anyway, here are some tutorial sites I've found in the past:

    http://www.jmarshall.com/easy/html/ Easy HTML
    http://www.werbach.com/barebones/ Barebones HTML
    http://www.tips-tricks.com/ HTML Tips and Tricks
    http://website101.com/ Website 101
    http://www.w3.org/MarkUp/ W3C Consortium - validates your HTML
    http://hotwired.lycos.com/webmonkey/programming/php/ Webmonkey PHP
http://phpbuilder.com/ PHP Builder (for php programming)
    http://www.webdevelopersjournal.com/ WebDev Journal

Remember, many of the features you may want, such as a Forum, Gallery, on-line store, are included with Cpanel, so it really will be much easier for us to help you if we know what kind of site you are setting up.

Most of your testing should be done off line. For static pages, you may only need a web browser or two. For dynamic pages, you may want to setup your own development server.

      How-to setup servers:
