We had actually worked on our deployment of ffmpeg a while ago and it just hadn't been finished. Your latest reply here reminded me of this and I can now say that this has been completed and we should have ffmpeg along with all of the corresponding requirements/utilities (lame, libogg, libvorbis, flvtool2, libvorbis, mplayer, ffmpeg, ffmpeg-php) available on all servers by tomorrow afternoon. I'll post in our announcements forum once this is available.

ffmpeg is not something that is offered at the moment. That is not to say, however, that it won't be offered.

So there is no way to run the ffmpeg module in Gallery2?

I would say that ffmpeg is unlikely to be available within the next 1-3 months. Beyond that it's really hard to say. But there have been times where I've said that we wouldn't offer item x at one point and then later on we did anyways.

The thing with ffmpeg if that it has a lot of extras that are really needed in order for it to be useful, which makes it more difficult to maintain on all of our servers since we do like to keep things fairly uniform across servers. We're also worried about placing more applications on the server that would take away from the performane of the web hosting as a whole. Converting audio and video files can certainly impact a server's performance which is what we have to keep in mind.

As interesting as it looks, I have no plans to use Gallery 2. My interest is in testing out a Drupal module that relies on ffmpeg, so I can understand how well it works and determine its' fitness to meet my needs.

ffmpeg is a module of gallery2.
I think it is not default module if you install gallery2
just select it from the download binaries and install it in the modules directory.

Edit: ffmpeg as a module of gallery2 would probably not integrate with any other application.

Are there any odds of this changing in the nearish future? For example, could you guesstimate a forecast "possibly in 3 months" or "unlikely but maybe in 6 months" or "not in the next 12 months" ...which would allow us (me) to plan around?
