Database backup with PHPmyadmin

Since I've never done this before, I thought I'd ask.

Does doing a simple backup with phpmyadmin work ok, or should I use something else? I just want to back up my DB because I need to update Joomla.

If the database is larger than a couple MBs I would create a backup via SSH, it is much more reliable.
