I have had 2 of the domains I host suspended, both of which were because of a script being exploited.

The first was an email script (installed via cpanel), which was used to send out spam. Andrew suspended the domain, and emailed me telling me what had happened. Because the domain sent out so many emails, it was not reinstated - I had to host that customer's site somewhere else instead.

The second was an old version of moveabletype, which was taking up too much CPU. It was suspended, and once again I was sent an email providing evidence. The client agreed to remove the script, so the domain was unsuspended. They did not do it quick enough so the domain was resuspended. I then terminated their account and set it up again, because my client agreed to start from scratch.

Both of these times, I was notified promptly via email of the suspension. I understand why Andrew cannot give prior notice before suspending an account.

All in all, I support Andrew's policies on suspending domains. After all, this is a shared hosting environment, and the first priority is the overall health of the server, not of an individual web site on the server.

Andrew, keep up the good work. I've been with your for over 2 years now, and with good reason too. If your servers were all insecure and unstable, I would have moved on long ago!

      Andrew
Not sure if this was unclear above, but this individual was sent an e-mail regarding the suspension immediatley after the domain was suspended.
Of course it was unclear, it should have been written in the big bold letters in your first post! Personally, I have got the wrong impression that you have only responded when he found it out himself and posted a TT

Having that point cleared out I have to say that I completely agree with your suspension policies then. It is resellers and customers problem to keep their scripts up to date.

Keep up on the good work and looking forward to host here

Sorry Andrew, that's what I get for reading/posting after a few beers. Keep up the good work.

I gotta pipep in here, peole are responsible for their actions and if people don't keep their scripts updated then that is their problem. Most beginner internet users are well aware of the security issues to some measure on the internet today, if they are not then a reseller ( myself included should ensure they are) We are all in this boat together and the TOS are pretty clear.... As reseller we must abide by some rules..... it's life. I think Andrew is pretty clear on it and who cares if his communication skill doesn't meet with someones approval, sometimes to make sure the point gets across you have to be direct to get the point across. I have been here well over 21/2 years and one thing I don't do is worry about the server I am on having issues because of Andrew and his staff. Also if I install a script from the C-panel package or another I always submit a Trouble ticket and ask before doing so to see if their are any issues... they are always more than willing to help

Keep up the good work Andrew and I think the majority will rule on this point it's called responibilty for ones reseller account After all it's all part of the reseller plan and part of the business we are in and I am sure you will find that most Hosts will have similar policies, maybe dressed up a bit different on a shared server....

The other solution to the issue is getting a dedicated server and running your business that way..... then you can do what ever you want and yoy set your own policies....
          Cheers,

          Gary

Andrew runs a tight ship. When you have a problem, it gets resolved. He doesn't ask me how the weather is, he doesn't carry on a conversation with him. He doesn't ask me to be his best friend. He does what he does to keep his servers running fast & secure. If some people feel he is too harsh, they are free to make their own decisions, and if they don't like how things are run here, they are able to make their own choice to leave or find some other host.

As for my customers, ALL of them know I am hosted here. They were given links to the website, to the terms & policies of Dathorn and told if they cannot follow them, they could loose their hosting account. All know how much I pay for hosting. They all know I go thru accounts once or twice a month. Keeps them on their toes. And what makes you think that admins @ Dathorn don't go thru your accounts? They have every right. I mainly notice when a user who normally does 500 megs of bandwidth suddenly does 3 gigs of bandwidth, that they are doing something different, and go look.
I think you missed the point. Ever heard the saying, it's not what you say it how you say it. It's not what Andrew is saying, it is how he is saying it that leaves a very bad impression in people's mouth. Take the same actions, but add a little tact and Dathorn would be much more successful. With that said I assume Andrew is happy with his success so he really has not felt the need to add a little tact to his approach.

I've been treated worse by hosts. I'll take Andrews short, "no ifs ands or buts" way of communicating to the silent "no reply" or even worse the "What problem? There's nothing wrong..." crap I get from other hosts. I'll be getting rid of a account for those reasons come next February or maybe sooner as I got plenty of room here at Dathorn.

so, if he upgrade phpbb he will get his account back??

I also get an account suspended because it has a link to an adult site, If I delete that link I get my site back?

The other day I was going to blog about the fbi taking down pictures of [EDITED], but I didnt do it just because i was afraid if I type [EDITED] my account will be suspended forever.

In almost all cases, if the problem is corrected the domain will be unsuspended, like this one particular instance was. However, if this becomes a repeat issue our willingness to unsuspend the account may quickly go away.

Linking to pornographic material of any kind is not allowed, period. That's what was edited out as far as I am aware.

If my memory is correct, there was no direct link, only a mention of the site in question. Is simply mentioning the site forbidden as well?

If there was any address at all, linked or not, that is not allowed.

right, no link to any site.

That article is all over cnet and slashdot and in the blogosphere, but you cannot put on dathorn servers...
