    Home Insurance in Florida!!

WARNING: Buddha will be ranting here so make sure the small children do not read this.

The company which wrote my home insurance has stop writing policies in the state of Florida. I now find myself in a whole new line of work! Finding fringin home insurance!! Is it this bad every where or is Florida some sort of special level of insurance HELL!! I know I'm an evil bastard! But what the !@#$ did I do to deserve this!! I can't even get a quote from the internet.
Thank you for submitting your information to insert-one-of-many.com. Based on the information you provided, we are unable to locate an insurance agent or carrier to quote you.
A couple were actually nice enough to stop me when I entry my zip code or state! The yellow pages have not been any better! I call one more insurance company only to have them tell me they're not writing policies in Florida I'm going to flip my lid. If I knew where the Insurance Commissioner lived I'ld go over and have an accident on his front step just to find out who's insuring his home! Be worth a broken leg or arm!

Well at least I don't have to make any more calls tonight because the phone had an accident! It was an accident I swear! Ok ... maybe I have flip my lid!

If you have any tips on finding home insurance in Florida please let me know.

Can't help you with the homeowner's insurance in FL, but if you hear of any deals on worker's comp insurance in CA, let me know.

Insurance companies are starting to react to high claims in certain areas by simply not writing insurance in those areas anymore. Doctors can't get malpractice insurance in Mississippi because of the huge claims there. Businesses can't get worker's comp in CA because of the huge claims, and I'll bet Florida's homeowners is for the same reason.

What if we all went "bare" ... no home, auto or health insurance. Would doctors still charge as much?

If I thought it would help I'ld run around the block "bare." But I think tort reform might be the only thing that will help.

Thanks Jonathan. I'm in Gulfport a little town in the St. Pete/Clearwater area of Tampa Bay. I didn't even know the name of my insurance company til they dropped me.

[ Note: I'm trying out the Deepnet Browser right now. I like it so far. ]

Totally off topic, but just in case its something you know ... any sailing schools there you would recommend? I'll be in Orlando for a trade show in February, and I was thinking of bringing my wife out for a sailing vacation/school type of thing for a few days. There's a couple of schools in the St. Pete area, and I've always wanted to visit there.

Oh, and yeah, they do have to be insured!

I assume you have checked with your neighbors? For these online zip code searches try entering neighboring zip codes as well.

have you tried contacting to big 10 US insurers: http://www.ranks.com/home/money/top_...index.html#132

Maybe call the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation consumer help line 1-800-342-2762

When i lived in tampa we had State Farm, i know they have stopped writing policys in many places.

Anyways on a side note, I used to spend allot of time in St. Pete, at the Renaissance hotel, a close family friend ran the thing, me and my friends would hang there for entire weekends, its was possibly the closest i will ever get to being a high roller. It was a best!!! If you ever get a chance go check out the hotel its amazing!

Sorry Frank I get sea sick on floating docks even.

Thanks Kyle. At least I now know who the players are - the Big 10. Been checking with my friends and nieghbors well the one the have houses. Not much help so far. I'll keep that phone number handy.

I did find this link: http://www.fldfs.com/Data/Insurance_...home_rates.asp

... that shows the rates of the top 20 insurers in any Florida county. At least I have a sort of attack plan now - just willy nilly going throught the yellow pages could drive me nuts. Good night sleep and I'll try again... after I get a new phone of course.

I use a company called Insurance and Trust (AIT), they deal with a lot of insurance companies so even when i get dropped which is every two years it seems they find me a new one. I am insured this year with AIG.
Give them a call 813-933-7333, they are on North Dale Mabry (tampa)...

Instead of shopping insurance companies, shop agents in your local area (real agents, not the one-company shops). You can be sure they've already done the research for their existing clients.

Find someone whos advice and business style you like, then make a decision and be sure to give them the commission. I'm not in insurance, and I never want to be. That's why I have an agent.

Well I got my first quote back today. It's almost 3 times what I was paying and twice as much as I was told before the hurricanes to expect. Damn hurricanes!

Not to Hi-Jack the thread, but doctors are leaving IL for MO due to huge lawsuits as well (Mainly in Madison County, IL) The Malpractice insurance is getting too high here for most doctors..

Thankfully my mother, who's on Dialysis 3 times a week, is covered by Tricare for Life from my fathers 30 years in the Marines. Me I'm covered by BOD - Better Off Dead. The cost of hospitals, doctors and prescriptions are !@#$ nuts! One of my mothers doctors gets 250 just to make sure she can still get to his office! She hates his guts and I think the feeling maybe mutual so they don't even say two words to each other. Her meds come to over 2000 a month, thankfully that's also mostly covered by Tricare too. Next year I'm hoping to get her a medicaid waiver for community based care. Hoping to reduce some of the cost not covered by Tricare.

Anyone in need of insurance can feel free to Hi-Jack this topic, if we can't help each other then we're in real trouble.

Dialysis in America is covered 100% for everyone (Medicare, if private insurance doesn't cover it). My father was on dialysis for 10 years before his death from other, natural causes. (The British used to cut dialysis off at a certain age ... not sure if they still do that!)
