    Bandwith exceeded inexplicably

My bandwith last month was about 10% of my allowable. This month my allowable has been exceeded, but my site isn't even live. I mean, I'm not sending my customers there and it shouldn't be seeing much activity. What's going on? How can I find out what's drawing the bandwith? Is it some kind of search bot? Is my site being taken advantage of somehow?

    Look through your logs.
Use Awstats to see page hits for each month and then work out if there's any major change.
You could download your raw logs and look through those with a piece of software.

If you do notice no oddities, it may be worth raising a trouble ticket to get support to make sure cPanel isn'tplaying up

Check your raw logs and your error log. I've noticed quite a few machines out there, just hammering away, looking for exploits lately. My personal site that has my forums on it, shows a really high usage, but doesn't seem to show it in awstats. (my forums are a subdomain, and bw is listed seperately)

      ie. mysite.com
Bandwidth usage (current month) 9877.60 Megabytes (from cpanel when you log in)

      forums.mysite.com via awstats
      2.56 GB

Now via awstats for my domain
      Aug 2005 342 1118 3144 3478 18.45 MB

      Under Stats it shows
      Bandwidth
This will show how many bytes your account has transferred.
forums.mysite.com 9.31 Gig (very off from what awstats shows)

      Back to the forums stats
      Jun 2005 24042 31897 134745 1128361 2.66 GB
      Jul 2005 25040 32621 141280 1156621 2.62 GB
      Aug 2005 24707 31617 138456 1141120 2.56 GB

Or I might just be confused here, but where does the extra 6.75 gigs come from? Not listed anywhere. (I will submit a ticket about this later on when I get home) but definately "odd".

Maybe I've just been lookin in the wrong spot all this time, will have to check WHM when I get home. Just wish I knew where all that bw is being used at.

      ***Edit
      WHM claims

forums.mysite.com has used 3.10 Gig this month
mysite.com has used 3.32 Gig total this month. Im gonna guess there is a cpanel issue. (will submit my TT when I get home from work, so I can monitor it).

      ****Double Edit
      In comprasion, last month

      forums.mysite.com used 2.91 Gig
      mysite.com used 3.11 Gig total
      According to WHM.

****Final Info - bug in cpanel (was fixed/resolved) & "Additional differences can be attributed to search engine spiders which AWStats does not record correctly."

After the said bug in cpanel being fixed, the bandwidth used on my forums via the bandwidth report in cpanel went from 9.31 gig to 3.15 Gig (damn bugs) and my overall bw is only 3.37 Gig for the entire site.

Thx to Andrew for taking the time to resolve the issue.
