For several of my domains, the "Links from an external page (other web sites except search engines)" section of AWStats lists a number of porn sites. I doubt that any porn site would link to one of my boring sites. Any idea how those pages get into AWStats?

I personally managed to stop most of my bad referrer hits by working out which IP's hit my website most often, and then put a line in my .htaccess file to deny them access.
I also tried emailing some of the companies who appeared to be hosting said people referring to me and got a few of them removed alsoCode:deny from 1.2.3.4
