Just a quick note about cPanel's counters; might save somebody the effort to figure it out yet again, I hope.
A customer of mine had 3 cPanel counter scripts on his website on cpanel17. Migrating to cpanel59 the data files got left behind and the counter images displayed a warning: "Datafile '/var/cpanel/Counters/*countername*.dat' must be created first". Navigating there with SSH shows that the cpanel folder doesn't even exist in /var/, nor can you create one.
The counter page in cPanel has a Reset form which allows you to set the value of the counter, but it doesn't create the file even as it says its content has been updated...
The (not very intuitive) trick is to click on the Preview button with the counter name set in the above form - the file will be automagically created! Go figure
