Cpanel's File manager upload problem

Cpanel's File Manager can't seem to upload large files when my client uses it. Does anybody have this problem also? Tried uploading an 8MB file and it failed. Please anybody help!

I believe upload via HTTP is restricted to the size set by root on the server.
Might be worth asking what that limit is from support.

For big files you want to use ftp.

I think the File Manager is coded in PHP you could just check the servers phpinfo().

I know on my cpanel (25) phpmyadmin will let you upload a 53mb file.

It could be something on your end. The browser could assume it timed out with that large of a file and slow upload speed.

But what if the user does not have access to an ftp client and all that the user have access to is the browser? That's the sad situation of my client.

For starter I would tell the client that I'm hiking his/her rates up for whining this earily in the morning. Then I'ld tell them to point their browser here and find a free FTP client. I'ld then charge them for a half hour for that information .... yeah it didn't take a half hour and I do normally charge in quarter hours for help desk service but there was whining involved and that is always EXTRA!

I don't think I would go to the extremes of Buddha, but I would simply point them to a FTP client you like (that they can download) and make it clear that cPanel's filemanager is worthless.

You can also use FTP through IE if you frequently need to upload files from other people's computers or are too lazy to download another FTP client. Note: This might only work with the "classic" windows theme (I couldn't get it to work with the new XP theme). Just go to: ftp://theirdomain.com Now, it will just show a "incoming folder". Ignore that folder. Right click on a blank spot on the browser window and click "login as..." in the submenu that appears. Then just use your FTP username/password. The interface for transfering files is windows-like. You can cut and copy, drag and drop, ect.

NOTE: You can only have one FTP session open at a time with IE.

WISHFULL THINKING: The reason you get that silly "incoming folder", is becuase cPanel allows for anonymous FTP. I wish this would simply not be an option becuase there is no reason anyone should ever use anonymous FTP.

Now that I've had my tea and I hope no one took me too serious. But you might want to check out something like Jscapes' FTP Applet or myjavaworld's JFTP.

Pros: Applets run from the clients-side. No restricts on the upload size. Easier on server and the bandwidth. Cons: Well it's Java and ease of use may vary.

I wish cPanel would go through a maintenance cycle and maybe fix just a couple of the holes!
