    FrontPage upload not working

I have a new customer that is trying to upload files using FrontPage 2002 before his domain name is ready. When we try to upload to http://cpanel28.gzo.com/~user we get the following error:

The folder 'http://cpanel28.gzo.com/~user' isn't accessible. The folder may be located in an unavailable location, protected with a password, or the filename contains a \ or /.
How should we upload the files?

    Thanks,
    Cindy

Try simply 'http://cpanel28.gzo.com' as the URL,
and 'user' as the username or perhaps folder?

I've never used FP myself, at least
in more than a test fasion on my mother's computer
she uses at church for treasury duties, etc.

I'd suggest simply waiting it out for
    the domain to propagate over.

Have your user set the IP/name in his host file. Solves a lot of headaches involving propregation and DNS's.

        How do we do this?

        Thanks

I tried that - didn't work either. I got the same error. We wanted to get the files uploaded and then switch the domain name from his current host so that there would be little to no downtime.

          Thanks

            Host file locations:

            Windows 95/98/Me c:\windows\hosts
            Windows NT/2000/XP Pro c:\winnt\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
            Windows XP Home c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

            /etc/hosts (on linux I think)

Notice those are files NOT directories, it just doesn't have an extension.

            Host file entry format:

            127.0.0.1 domain.com

It's just a plian text file. So you need your clients server's IP address and domain name.

unless you do what buddah is explaining you cannot use frontpage till the domain propigates...

and that might even not work.

                Another thing;

                1) In WHM when you made his package, did
                you enable FrontPage Extentions?

                2) If so, are they installed? Check cpanel (cpanel28.gzo.com/cpanel)
and go to 'FrontPage Extentions' -- if not installed, do so.

Thats about the extent of my FP knowledge

                  Thanks everyone.

FP extensions are installed. And what Buddha suggested didn't work - it tries to upload to the existing site instead of the new site where we are trying to upload the files. The existing site doesn't use Control Panel. Is there a way to transfer the files to cpanel28?

                  Thanks

Try re-installing the FP Ext. and also create a "new web" in FP. Copy over your files and then try to publich is again using the domain name.

I've been told several times that you can't use Front Page before the domain propagates over.

Try FTPing the files instead of the normal way. You can still do it in Front Page and should work fine if you're not using counters, forms or other dynamic content.

                        Finally!

                        For future reference:

I finally got it to work. I had to use:

                        ftp://ipaddress/public_html

                        Worked like a charm!!

                        Thanks for everyone's input!
