    Server requires authentication right???

I've been under the impression that in order to use the smtp server, authentication needs to be checked right? Cpanel's OE auto config also sets that as default.

Well, all of a sudden, If its checked the connection will time out. If its unchecked, everything sends correctly????

This is occuring on every mail account I have on server25. Can anybody else confirm?

in my outlook i have "my outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication" checked (enabled)

but i tested it, and it sends with or without it checked.

i am not on the same server as u...

but as long as it isnt a open relay, it shouldnt be a problem.

I know, I'm confused... I thought it would work either way but some of customers are able to use it and others are not. I don't know which it SHOULD be.

I always left my unchecked because it worked with out it, so never really so a point to have it checked off.

The server is not an open relay obviously. Sometimes cPanel will require you to authenticate with the SMTP server but most of the time if you've already checked your POP3 account succesfully it will add your IP to a temporary list of hosts that can send mail without further authentication.
