There was a tar process that got out of control and since then it has dropped.

Also, I see you mentioned yesterday, you must be monitoring this during the time that backups are running as that's what the load would nearly be. Unfortunately it will likely continue to do this until the server is upgraded to our new backup system.

Andrew, I assume that backups and once-a-day cron jobs are mostly scheduled during the wee hours of the morning?

Reason I ask is- I'm on 08, and it's often much slower at 3:00 am than 3:00 pm!!

I think you may have said that backwards

Anyways, yes, the old backup system goes through and begins at 1:30AM but on some servers, of which 08 is one of them, backups run well into the day time hours. The combination of server upgrades and the transfer to our new backup system will solve this once and for all. We were scheduled to start on the upgrades again beginning this Friday but we've had some trouble getting the correct hard drives so it may end up getting delayed a bit.

It seems that in the moring (around 7-9 am CST ( -6 GMT) cpanel24 either gets rebooted, or it cannot be viewed? I get easymonitor reports that it cannot access my site about once a day like clockwork.

That major cause of this was another customer on the server of whom was given the boot earlier today finally.

Whoo, what did (s)he do specifically? Can we set up a FAQ on "dumb things that will load up the server and will get you booted"?

cpanel12 is right along with cpanel08 in that there are some very large performance issues with them mixed in with the fact that backups run nearly 18 hours a day as it takes so long for them to complete. The upgrades will take care of this.
