    Streaming Support?

    Good afternoon

I have a friend who is searching a provider and of course I proposed dathorn.com... but I could not answer one question: is it possible to
    offer streaming content?

He talks about the Free (12 month) Helix Universal Basic Server
from RealNetworks which supports RealAudio 8, RealVideo 9,
Flash animation, images, slides, and streaming text to up to 1Mbps
    of content.

But I think he is open to use any other product...

    Thanks a lot in advance,
    kind regards,
    Thomas

    streaming no...

that realnetworks server is a true streaming server that you will not be able to install on dathorns servers.

but you can put wmv files on your webspace at dathorn and download them, and they will play as you download them.

As long as you don't expect more than a handful of simultaneous connections and don't mind the video file ending up on the users PC...

Progressive download works well in these circumstances but isn't 'true' streaming.

Hmmmm.. this makes me wonder. And a little worried.

I host a musicians website, and he regularly places his own mp3 files on the server. They are not streamed, of course as mp3 is generally not streamable, but I don't wish to wake up some day and the account is suspended.

        Any thoughts?

It would only get suspended most likely if he went over his bandwidth usage. I don't think downloading mp3s takes any extra CPU resources.

Thanks a lot for your help.
I think it is a killer requirement, but I will ask him if he really needs 'real' streaming.

            kind regards,
            Thomas

                I use streaming live stats
                from this game I play.

                Well; technically not "streaming",
but they refresh every 10 seconds or so
to see if there is a new page etc.

Basicly its a cool little program this guy made,
for a old skool game called Rogue Spear -- yep,
the Granddaddy of all the SWAT-like FPS games

My off-topic five-trillion worth of opinion!

I can't believe you called Rogue Spear old school compared to S.W.A.T. Try calling it old school compared to Halo or something like that :-D

Rogue Spear is a great game though.

lol, i LOVE roguespear, i run a ravenshield fan site here of course roguespear is way better than ravenshield, except the grfx

swat is oldschool too havent played much of it, but i had a buddy that worked on a very famus swat fansite, something like 7david or something like that i forget.

good to hear this stuff what was the topic about :P ohh yea, we use a stats program (not on my sites) for the same thing that the roguespear does. its sorta streaming... cause it refreshes a few secounds to get the stats of the game on annother game server.

                      Psychostats Question

Hi all - I believe this might be my first post on the new forum.

I've got a Q about scripts and games too, and before posting a new thread, thought Id do a search first.

                      on to the Q:
Im helping set up a Counter Strike clan site. The team has got a game server running off a broadband connection and we are trying to setup the server stats script from http://www.psychostats.com

I hope this script isnt on the ban list, if it is can someone notify me immediately and i will remove it

The script works fine. but it hasnt got the ability to pull the logs directly off the gameserver. So I have had to use a user contribution that works pretty well - http://www.psychostats.com/contribs/....php?itemid=77

I have run these scripts with no problems from within my root dir. I tried to set up a cron job to download the logs and to update the stats, but i get no feedback from the cron and it appears that it is not working. I tried setting an output file and it does get created, but with 0kb - no data.

I would appreciate help on this issue - thanks.

Hmm; if my memory is correct (big 'if' mind you), I believe
a counter-strike site I host for a friend, tried (or is) using
stats like that, if not the same thing...

I remember all this crap he was asking me; it was saying
run a .PL or something file on UR computer and all this
and it'd FTP info to the server?? (confused big time)

I told him I wasn't touching it ~ he had to go
it alone with risk of being suspended if it turned out bad.

well, the scripts work, I dont have a problem with them.

Its just trying to set up a cron job that is baffling me. heres my cron file by the way. Ive trimmed it to run just the log download every 15 mins.
                          Code:

                          # DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE - edit the master and reinstall.
                          # (/home/shianet/.crontab installed on Fri May 28 21:42:58 2004)
                          # (Cron version -- $Id: crontab.c,v 2.13 1994/01/17 03:20:37 vixie Exp $)
                          MAILTO="account_username"
                          */15 * * * * /home/shianet/psychostats2.0.2/pnlogdl.pl
I changed it from every 30 min to every min just so I could see if it was working correctly: but no luck.

If I am in the psychostats dir and run ./pnlogdl.pl from there, no probs, but if i try to run /home/shianet/psychostats2.0.2/pnlogdl.pl from anywhere i get an error message.

                            */2 * * * * nice /home/shianet/psychostats2.0.2/pnlogdl.pl

                            This is the error message:
