    Traffic between Dathorn servers

Say two people are on differnt Dathorn servers that are hosted at The Planet, is traffic that moves between those two servers but doesn't go into the wider internet or to any other server counted toward the monthly allowance?

On first thoughts I would assume that this type of "LAN" or internal traffic should be allowance free as it incurs only minimal cost but I guess there are other considerations like monitoring and wether it can be easily distinguished or not.

    What do others think?

Is internal traffic between Dathorn servers in the same datacentre free?

If it's not what are some of the reasons why?

Yes. The Planet's data transfer is monitored at the port if I'm not mistaken and cPanel's is monitored at the NIC.

Power, HVAC, support, hardware costs, etc... Everyone needs to make a living. There are places that will provide this kind of setup at a fee. Also, if you have your own equipment and network evertying yourself, and then purchase one uplink port fromt he datacenter, you could create your own environement to make this possible.

On a duel NIC machine you can do this, but i doubt Dathorn lets their customers transfer between servers for free, or that cPanel could even handle counting it or telling it apart.

The easiest way to do it would be for Andrew to lease his own cabinets with his own switches. He could then monitor his own ports and route and charge accordingly. I doubt that Andrew has this kind of interest right now. Maybe if/when he starts with his own dedicated server offerings.

First off, why would you need something like this?

We do have an entire LAN setup between all of our servers - for our backup system. But we don't offer any such access to customers as there's really not good reason to.

That's the main reason that I can think of that somebody would want this for.
