queries used ???

I have a site who decided to host a IPB board, and later changed it to a portal. I'm wondering just how many queries used is too much?

On my main forums I run, I have 11 queries used. And am thinkin about trying to shrink that number some to increase speed overall.

Any ideas or help would be greatly apperciated as I am unsure.

Oh, and I got my user id on WHT changed to same as this one. =P

there isnt a number of queries per se


as discussed in a previous thread:

watch 'pstree -u | grep httpd'

if you consistantly have 10 processes running under your username then u are pushing for account suspension

They key is to make sure they're not persistent connections. They shouldn't be with IPB, but some hacks may be. Anything "Live" could pose a problem.

He had it @ 27 queries used for a while, I got him to cut it down to 19.

It's not only the number of queries but the amount of data. Make sure every data field fetched is actually needed. "*" are great when your developing a script but you have to go back and figure out what is needed.

However, having said that it still a good idea to reduce the number of queries.

I bet that hogging the database could get you suspended too. And I can think of a few of way of you could do that without showing up in httpd. But I don't think Andrew in myopic either he'll find the problem no matter what service is involved.
