Restoring a cPanel backup

How do I restore a full backup created through cPanel?
When I restore mysql and home directory from the full backup, all it does is decompress the files.

Yeah, I've always wondered about cpanel's backup restore feature. I could never figure it out :lol:

This might be why it was such a pain for me to restore after my old host got hacked twice.

I've read the cPanel user guide and followed the directions, but...
When I restore home directory, I get a folder in my home directory labelled backup-[datetime]_[acct_name].
When I restore mysql I get an unusable database named backup[datetime][acct_name]tar.

How do I go from this to a usable website?

the "Full Backup" isn't restore-able. Thats more for your archive purposes

You want to do a "home" backup, that is restorable.

Same goes with mySQL in that sense.

I never got the aliases/redirects to work though.

well, you could always unzip it locally and copy the files up to the server. I believe if memory serves, all the directory files reside in the "homedir" folder of the full backup. There however, will be permissions problems, and I ran into that, although after so much confusion forgot which was the final result that got email working

Its not a complete loss. just far more problematic

I STILL haven't figured out how to backup database user/passwords and restore that!!
